It was so hot in Madrid that we mostly explored the city at night. We changed it up from the airbnb apartments and stayed in a hotel in the city center. We had an amazing balcony and view and spent a lot of time out there just taking in the lit up city. During the day we could hang around the rooftop pool and wait for the sun to go down before heading out to explore the streets.
There was an amazing park across the street that the kids wanted to play in every night after dinner. One evening we found ourselves there at 11pm and the amount of other children that were also there was staggering. Our dinners each night seemed to happen later and later- I don't think the city ever went to sleep.
We found so many good restaurants and sweet shops and during the day we found a few fun indoor activities with air conditioning. Joel and I showed the kids how to buy tickets for and ride the subway. It could have easily made the highlight list if it hadn't been a swealtering-damp-swamp-inferno down there. Overall, Madrid was a hit.
View from the hotel roof
View from our hotel balcony. A new movie played each night that the kids liked to watch.
Whimsical dessert restaurant that was right out of Posey's sketch book.
Underground magical restaurant with live music that served amazing drinks and desserts.
Incredible Flamenco show. The guitarist was the highlight.
